Flipping Out, literally…

As the Olympics get closer, media focus switches to what athletes are doing to prepare for the games. Unfortunately for Paul Hamm, the focus on him is the untimely injuries that have forced him to retire. Hamm is the reigning Olympic champion in the men’s gymnastics all-around competition, and was best chance for the U.S. squad to receive an individual medal at the Beijing games. After taking a two year absence from the sport following the Athens Olympics, Hamm resumed training with the hopes of returning to his former glory. He was named to the U.S. team despite not being able to compete in the U.S. trials due to a wrist injury. His retirement comes as a huge blow to the men’s team, as he was easily the most versatile member of the squad.
