The Cycle 16 auditions for America’s Next Top Model has approached! As we all know for the past couple of seasons I have been a judge for the auditions in our area. On Saturday July 17, I strolled into the Pentagon City Mall and got the judging! The line was wrapped around the third floor of the mall as model hopefuls awaited to audition. Some stepped up to judging with confidence and strutted down the runway while others had a more subtle approach and tried not to let their nerves get the best of them. This cycle is the audition I really decided to speak my mind. As i sat at my table, starbucks drink in hand, I could not help but give some of the girls my honest opinion in the upmost respectable way possible. Being a fashionista myself, I’ve seen it all so I know the do’s and dont’s of this industry. I saw everything from bright hair dyes to tattoos and it made me want to help these girls out and advise them on what they should change in order to look “model ready.” All in all, the casting went well. The girls had fun, I had fun and I wish the best for the Metropolitan contestants!!!

To all who came out and showed their support, I would like to Thank YOU. The Tigerlily Foundation’s 2nd Annual Diva Night Out turned out to be amazing. From the silent auctions to the donations made and the fashion show that shut the event down. The smiles and tears of the women are still playing over in my head. This is by far one of the best events I have hosted. From the moment I walked in, I felt something special in the air. The presenters and those that spoke on behalf of Breast Cancer brought out tears in many eyes. We as people need to continue to support and continue to help save a life, by doing everything in our power to help spread the word about Breast Cancer Awareness. I look forward to seeing everyone at next year’s 3rd annual event..!!!
Ok friends, fans and foes, I’m officially at the half way point in my total body makeover. I’ve been working out daily with my trainer Alita Brown of Fitness Together, eating the best food and cutting way back on sugar and other bad stuff.. When I first started this process, I was literally taking a car service from my house to the gym. I needed lots of sleep and it still wasn’t ever enough! My jeans were too tight and my stomach was getting meatier by the day! Today, I feel strong, I run to the gym and beyond, my skin looks awesome and I have energy to spare!
Thanks to the help of my team of experts: Alita Brown of Fitness Together, Caroline Alexander and Sandee Sgarlata of HealthyMuse.com, Dr. Paul Ruff and my staff at home David, Aussie, Marcela and Carla, I am well on my way to being in the best physical and mental shape of my life. I’m telling this story in a big way so look out for my total body transformation on your TV in the very near future!
Cheers,
Paul Wharton xx
TELEVISION PERSONALITY PAUL WHARTON TO CO-HOST
TIGERLILY FOUNDATION’S 2ND ANNUAL DIVA NIGHT OUT
Washington, DC, May 12, 2010 — On Saturday, May 15 at 6:00 p.m., the Mandarin Oriental Hotel overlooking the Tidal Basin and the luscious cityscape of our Nation’s Capital, will be the setting for the Tigerlily Foundation’s 2nd Annual DIVA Night Out, a fundraiser in support of young women living with breast cancer.
Paul Wharton, international fashion and lifestyle expert seen on VH1, CW50, and MTV, will be joined by Cynn`e Simpson of WJLA-TV/ABC7 and Angel Elliot of BET to create a celebrity trifecta to co-host the event.
The Tigerlily Foundation has very special meaning for Mr. Wharton. He shares: “I recently became aware of the work Tigerlily was doing by Caroline Alexander of Healthy Muse, it made me think of my dear friend…who was diagnosed with breast cancer in her early 30’s. I was right by her side after her first mastectomy and then, a short period later, her second. She’s a healthy, happy example of what excellent care and support can do for a young woman diagnosed with this disease. I want to help as many women as possible feel as loved and supported as my friend did when she needed it most.”
DIVA Night Out is meant to be a celebration of life for courageous young warrior women in their battles with breast cancer. Proceeds benefit the Foundation, which is one of the only organizations in the nation providing full lifecycle, service-oriented assistance to young women during and after breast cancer. They provide education, financial assistance, meals, groceries, empowerment and other day-to-day assistance to young women with breast cancer between the ages of 15 and 40.

I jumped out of bed at 5:00 am on Thursday morning to start my day and make sure I arrived on time at the funeral servicefor Civil Rights Activist, Dr. Dorothy Height. I said on my facebook page days ago that I had a few regrets about not seizing the opportunity to talk more with Dr. Height on several of the opportunities when I stood just feet away from her in a social setting. On Thursday, I had the opportunity to pay my respects and share in celebration of Dr. Height’s phenomenal life.
President Obama was one of the many people that spoke about their relationship with Dr. Height. Though Height devoted decades to pursuing “a righteous cause,” Obama said she never cared about getting credit and often worked behind the scenes while the movement’s male leaders earned more attention and fame.
“What she cared about was the cause. The cause of justice, the cause of equality, the cause of opportunity, freedom’s cause,” Obama told hundreds of mourners at the Washington National Cathedral.
Height, who died in Washington last week at the age of 98, led the National Council of Negro Women for decades and marched with the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. She received two of the nation’s highest honors: the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1994 and the Congressional Gold Medal in 2004.
Progress on civil rights came slowly, Obama said, but the movement “ultimately made it possible for Michelle and me to be here as president and first lady.”
The Obamas got to know Height during the early days of the 2008 presidential campaign. Following Obama’s victory, Height became a regular at the White House, visiting 21 times. In her final months, she took part in discussions on Obama’s health care reform effort.
In February, as a record-setting blizzard descended on Washington, Height was determined to attend a meeting of African-American leaders on unemployment, Obama said, even though she was in a wheelchair.
She wouldn’t allow “just a bunch of men” to control the meeting, the president said. When Height’s attendance became impossible because cars could not reach her snow-choked driveway, he said, she still sent a message offering her ideas.
Sitting alongside Mrs. Obama and Vice President Joe Biden at the service, Obama wiped tears from his eyes as he listened to tributes from Height’s close friends and family. The poet Maya Angelou offered a reading from her wheelchair.
The hundreds of mourners who came to the cathedral to remember Height marked the breadth of her influence — alongside political figures like Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi were civil rights activist Jesse Jackson and comedian Bill Cosby. Many women in the crowd wore bright, colorful hats, a nod to Height’s trademark attire.
Born in Richmond, Va., in 1912, before blacks had equal rights and women could vote in every state, Height moved with her family to the Pittsburgh area when she was a child. She distinguished herself in the classroom and was accepted to Barnard College, only to be turned away because the school already had reached its quota — two — of black women. She went on to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees from New York University.
In the 1950s and 1960s, she was the leading woman helping King and other activists orchestrate the civil rights movement, often reminding the men not to underestimate their female counterparts.
Obama ordered flags to be flown at half-staff Thursday in Height’s honor.
I am so thankful to have met Dr. Height while she was living and to celebrate her life with all of you. She is gone from this earthly world but her spirit will live on in our hearts and our history books.

I’ve always known I had a slightly high maintenance side of me but today I confirmed it - signed, sealed and delivered. Some of you may know that I’ve embarked on a 10 week journey of self rejuvenation. I decided to change my diet, cut out fat, sugar and alcohol, work with my trainer 6 days and week and really put lots of energy into my look and outlook on life.
This morning, I got up at 4:45am (which is funny because there was a time in my life when I got home from the club at 4:45am) and prepared for my day to begin. Marcela arrived at my loft bright and early to prepare my breakfast. Let’s see, I had 4 hard boiled egg whites, a cup of steel cut oatmeal with a chopped apple and a bit of honey. Marcela knew that I was going to have a tough workout at the gym so my special treat on the way out the door was a Whey Protein and fresh fruit smoothie (Yummm). My assistant David arrived to get things up and running in my office, I walked my dog Oscar and by 7:30am, we climbed into the back of my waiting SUV from Reston Limo in route to Fitness Together Capitol Hill.
From the time I jumped from the car and ran into FT, my trainer Alita Brown was about ready to beat me down for being 10 minutes late! Doesn’t this woman know that I used to be an hour late for just about everything I did?? Baby steps people, baby steps! Alita managed to kick my butt yet another day (and that’s why my abs look this good, thanks Alita!!) and before I knew it, I was back in the car on my way to Dr. Lawrence Singer’s office in Old Town. Have you all heard of Invisalign? I’m sure you have. Well I’ve wanted Invisalign for quite some time and as of today, I now have them! It looks so harmless, wear those clear retainers and come out with perfectly straight teeth! What’s the catch?? Time and experience has taught me that beauty hurts and today was no exception. Let’s just say, I’m sure my neighbors will be keeping their distance from me after hearing my potty mouth this evening. These trays are kicking my a** but if you want to shine, you gotta do the time!
After Dr. Singers, my trusty (and portly) driver James Stringer plugged my next stop into his GPS. In a matter of minutes we were on 495 headed for my Colon Hydrotherapy session with Caroline Alexander and my Reiki Energy Healing session with Sandee Sgarlata. You can find these women at www.healthymuse.com. The work that I’ve done there is helping to not just change my life but save my life. I am on my way to being the healthiest I’ve ever been in my life and their services play a major role in my process. Thank you Angels.
At about 3pm, we were on the toll road headed back to DC. I was meeting the man that’s in charge of returning my skin to its original factory condition! You heard me, I want skin as soft and flawless as the day I was born and Dr. Paul Ruff is helping me get it. I’ve been going to Dr. Ruff for about a year and my skin keeps getting better and better. I started a new process today called Laser Genesis Rejuvenation. The treatment helps shrink pores and even skin tone. Check out Dr. Ruff at www.metplasticsurgery.com.
After a full day of working on myself, I headed straight to my office for a full evening of working on my business. I’m keeping a journal to share what I’m learning and experiencing over this 10 week period. I am blessed to have friends, family and God in my life through this process of working on my outside and most importantly my inside. If you think about it, without our good health, we have nothing. Stay tuned to more adventures of “Paul Wharton’s 10 Week Total Body Makeover”. And now, my Invisalign must go in, OOOOUUUUCCCHHHHYYYYY!!!!!
Cheers,
Paul Wharton xx
After my day of judging the runway skills of the beautiful young women that came out for the America’s Next Top Model Cycle 15 Casting at Pentagon City, I went home for a quick change, grabbed my dog Oscar and my niece Anasia and we headed to The Italian Embassy for The 4th Annual Fashion For Paws Fundraiser. This has to be one of the most successful fundraisers in Washington. It’s very impressive.
Over the past 4 years they’ve raised over $850,000. to benefit The Washington Humane Society. They are doing amazing work. I found my dog Oscar at The Washington Humane Society three years ago and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Check out the photo gallery from Fashion for Paws on the homepage of www.dc50tv.com. If you’d like to contribute to The Washington Humane Society go to www.washhumane.org.
All my best,
Paul Wharton
You all know I love all things fashionable and beautiful and now I’ve decided to turn my attention for detail to developing beautiful homes that are perfect for first time home buyers. My team is developing a series of homes that are going to give condo dwellers and renters a superior alternative to their current living situation.
I’m going to host our first open house with my broker Melanie Gamble of 212 Degrees Realty (301) 343 8538. The home is located at 6800 Randolph Road in Hyattsville, MD. Come check it out, I’m very proud of our work, we’ll be there from 2-4pm on Sunday April 11th or call Melanie for your own private showing.
See you there.

It’s that time of year again, my favorite DC based magazine, Washington Life has publishing it’s annual YGL issue and having the party of the year! The Young & the Guest List (YGL) is chosen by committee of prominent Washingtonians which names 200 of the metro area’s top innovators under the age of 40. These movers and shakers come from an array of professions: politics, media, diplomacy, legal, corporate, real estate, sports, entertainment, the arts, technology, society, philanthropy, K Street, finance, and more. To achieve professional success is one thing; this power set is affecting positive change in our community and abroad.
Washington Life has reached out to influencers within the communities and compiled the most comprehensive list of influential rising leaders in the city. I’ve had the honor of being on the list from the time it was initially published in 2007. I’d like to acknowledge the entire Washington Life team for continuing to be leaders in their field.
What do you think of my cover???
Cheers,
Paul Wharton xx
