The question I get the most on the street, at parties and from my fan-mail is “Who takes care of your skin”? Well, it takes a village people (get it “Village People” :-))… I’ve worked with most of the Dr.’s in the city and after several years of trying to find the right fit, here are three that I trust with my face, skin and body. I like them all for different reasons. Visit their websites, call them up for a consultation, get a feel for their personalities and then let their talented hands help you discover the most beautiful you! Just know that they are the best.

The weekend was pretty fabulous. On Friday I hosted “Bustin’ Loose”, a three day shopping boutique to  benefit the Lombardi Center’s Breast Cancer Research Division of Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of the Georgetown University Medical Center and Hospital. They seek to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cancer through innovative basic and clinical research, patient care, community education and outreach, and the training of cancer specialists of the future. Lombardi is one of only 41 comprehensive cancer centers in the nation, as designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), and the only one in the Washington, DC, area. What began as a small clinic treating cancer patients has grown into a state-of-the-art cancer center housing more than 240,000 square feet of clinic and research space.

You all know I love to party, but I really love to party with a purpose. I met some amazing people at the event. First off, my co-host Pamela Sorensen and I had a blast catching up. I haven’t spend any quality time with Pamela in a while, she’s a good friend. My friend Jason Turner popped up to support me along with a few hundred others. I met a fabulous jewelry designer named Fran Twisdale from Raleigh, NC. Her southern accent, kind demeanor and beyond glamorous jewelry made me fall in love at first glance, check out www.jewelrydesignerfrantwisdale.com.

Gay Marriage is Officially Legal in Washington, DC… Paul Wharton

Back in October, I attended the city counsel session where they officially passed The Gay Marriage Equality Bill. That’s right, I was there in the chamber!! We all cheered and celebrated! We live in Washington, DC, the Capital of The United States and ALL residents didn’t have the right to get married?? Now that the Supreme Court has decided NOT to block the bill, we now have Marriage Equality in DC. Our City Counsel (including my friend Council Member David Catania) really stepped up to the plate and made this happen. Only two Counsel Members opposed the bill (one of them was Counsel Member Marion Barry). Despite that opposition, on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, gay couples that desired to be married lined up at City Hall to get their marriage licenses.

With this decision, D.C. becomes the sixth locale in the nation where gay marriages can take place. Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont also issue licenses to same-sex couples.
Because of a mandatory waiting period, couples won’t actually be able to marry in the Washington until March 9. Opponents of the decision are still attempting to overturn the law in court.

I can’t wait to be a guest at some of the fabulous weddings. And maybe one day…… You never know :-). At least I have the option.

    Congratulations Washington!

I Heart NY - BET, Indigo Arms, Misa Hylton, Cutler Salon= :-) Paul Wharton

Celebrity Judges Misa Hylton, Paul Wharton and India with Host Roxie

New York City is a magical place. DC is where my home is but NYC certainly does have a piece of my heart. I arrived and it was right to work. I’m developing a new project that I can’t wait to share with you all (but note yet). Anyhow Thursday morning came and I was up and out. Midtown for my workout, Soho for shopping and to get my hair done at The Cutler Salon. By the time my hair was finished, the snow was coming down a mile a minute. I ran out of Cutler, trying to do everything I could to shield my head from the fluffy drops of lovliness that would turn my head into a mound of frizz. I got in the back of the Suburban and we were off to the 34th Street studios of BET’s 106 & Park. I was there to be a celebrity guest judge for  The 2010 Rip the Runway Model Contest.

I was in the dressing room when India, BJ Coleman (Misa’s publicist) and Misa Hylton joined my assitant Aussie, Rebecca and Petra (Team Paul) as we prepared for the show. We headed down the hall to get one last hair touch up and then off to the set. The kids were screaming, the energy was high and I was ready to really enjoy myself.

We started with 5 models and after the first round of critiques from my co-judges and I, the audience at home was able to eliminate two of the contenders. I felt sooo very bad that the twin sisters got eliminated. One thing I realize about myself is I really don’t like elimination shows. I want everyone that has been willing to put themselves out there in front of millions on the runway to win!

In the end ModelMaze was our winner and the show was a total success. BJ Coleman and I climbed into Misa’s Mercedes SUV and headed to The Mandarin Oriental in Time Warner Center to have a few cocktails and a lovely dinner. We talked about life, relationships, family and careers. By the time Misa and I dropped BJ off, the snow was about 8 inches deep and coming down fast. Misa was so sweet to drop me off at home, I ran a hot bath and tested out my new products from Fresh!

My friend Sidra introduced me to her friend Eartha, the owner of Indigo Arms, one of New York’s most comfortable, luxurious and beautiful Bed & Breakfast Guest Houses. It’s located at 181 Lenox Avenue in the heart of Harlem. Take my word, I love comfort and luxury, I felt like a King while staying at Indigo Arms. If you’re looking for a fabulous New York experience, check it out www.indigoarms.com.

A long day’s work that was seen by millions around the world. Meeting new friends like Eartha and Misa, discovering Indigo Arms, my new home away from home and finding Danielle, the hairstylist at The Cutler Salon that is my new go to hair expert. Now do you see why I say New York is so magical :-)?

    Big Love,

Paul Wharton on BET’s Rip The Runway Model Contest!

Hello Everyone-  I’m all set to light up New York as a celebrity guest judge, along with celebrity stylist Misa Hylton, for BET’s Rip The Runway Model Contest.  The model contest will be taped live on Thursday, February 25, 2010 during the popular afternoon show 106th and Park (6:00 pm EST, 5:00 pm Central).  The contest draws amateur models to compete for the opportunity to stalk the catwalk during BET’s annual music and fashion mash-up, Rip the Runway.

They say I was a natural choice for this role :-).  After 106 & Park I’ll be at Rip The Runway up in New York on Saturday. All of this is good practice for my fourth year as DC casting judge for the CW hit show America’s Next Top Model. You have just over a month to prepare for the casting!

Check out dc50tv.com soon to get lots of information on how to prepare for this year’s casting. Together, we can achieve all of our dreams.

    Big Love,

    Paul Wharton xx

Journey to South Africa, Countdown to the World Cup… Paul Wharton

You all know that for the past four years, I’ve been working to support children in the foster program of DC Child and Family Services. Well now, my dear friend Stacie Scott Turner is taking her passion for foster youth further by launching a new initiative that will take 15 foster girls to Africa to witness The World Cup in June 2010.

XOL will host their kick off luncheon this Friday at The W Hotel. The events co-chairs are BET’s CEO, Debra L. Lee and Soap Opera legend and Foster Activist Victoria Rowell! If you’d like to be a part of this fabulous event and find out how you can make a difference in the life of a child, please go to www.extra-ordinarylife.org.

Extra-Ordinary Life is the realization of a dream by Founder, Stacie Scott Turner. Placed in foster care as a baby and subsequently adopted by a loving family, Stacie launched XOL to provide hope and opportunity to foster girls that have not yet been blessed with a permanent home and family.

Extra-Ordinary Life operates as a program within the PURSUIT OF DREAMS FOUNDATION (POD), an established 501(c)3 that provides intervention resources, guidance and motivation to youth and athletes. Pursuit of Dreams was founded in 2004 by Beverly Kearney; the legendary University of Texas Track and Cross Country coach who is a living example that greatness is possible despite extreme obstacles.

The XOL program is a natural extension of the work of the Pursuit of Dreams Foundation—as both seek to inspire youth to dream big and achieve. Beverly Kearney has a passion and gift for coaching and mentoring youth to achieve greatness—and will be an inspiration to our girls.

It’s 2010. We can all move forward together. There’s no need to leave any child behind. Please log on to www.extra-ordinarylife.org today and join this wonderful cause.

Oh No, I Don’t Wait in Lines Mr. Officer Sir… Paul Wharton

Things are getting really hot in here, too hot if you ask me. You’ve all heard about the issues my friends, Tareq and Michaele Salahi are facing surrounding their recent “appearance” at The White House State Dinner. Although much of the story hasn’t come to light, the facts are, they attended the event and took pictures taken with some of the most powerful political figures in the world. (From the set of “Where the Elite Meet on WDCW-TV, host Paul Wharton with Tareq and Michaele Salahi)

In every situation there’s two sides to the story and the truth lies somewhere in the middle. I don’t know exactly what happened but I do know that Michaele and Tareq are not a threat to National Security. They might be guilty of a horrific social blunder and social climbing at the highest level possible but they are basically good people that mean well.

Something tells me if I showed up at The White House unannounced, I would not have been waved through the gates with no prior clearance. I mean really… Can you imagine, my most slim fitting tuxedo, big Dior shades and my hair freshly blown out! Nope, wouldn’t happen. Someone had to be expect them, don’t you think?

My goodness I’m happy this wasn’t me. I understand proper protocol but I can understand the allure of being invited (in any capacity) to the White House. Most of us would’ve been standing up there with Joe Biden grinning and snapping as many shots as we could.

To be continued… What are your thoughts?

    Paul Wharton xx

Knocking Out Abuse for Good… Paul Wharton

I recently attended the annual Knock Out Abuse Fundraiser that helps fight domestic violence. This is one of the most exclusive events of the year (this year it was chaired by top Fed-Ex lobbyist Gina Adams) and I’m happy to be able to take part in such a fabulous and important evening. My dear friend Charrisse Jordan invited me to be her “date” (and I say “date” because her husband is Eddie Jordan, Head Coach of the Philidelphia 76′ers). There were rumors that Eric Benet was going to perform but that never happened. Our celebrity speaker was none other than Ms. Robin Givens. Her speach was heart-felt and engaging, you go girl! I was introduced to Robin by Zina Garrison, the superstar tennis-pro that also lives in the DC area. Hey Zina!!

After the event, Robin Givens and I hung out in the Ritz Carlton bar and talked about life, her experience with domestic abuse, living in NYC and Florida, her two wonderful kids and her plans to get back to down to DC soon. It occurred to me days later that instead of focusing on why we were all supporting Knock Out, several people complained about the lack of celebrity musical entertainment. Hmmmm, I’m torn here people. I understand the ticket prices were expensive (in the $500-750 range) but I don’t want to loose sight of why we’ve all been supporting Cheryl Masri and Jill Sorenson’s cause for all these years.

Knock Out Abuse Against Women is a Washington, D.C. based organization that for the past 16 years has promoted awareness and raised money to combat domestic abuse. Since 1993, Knock-Out Abuse Against Women has raised more than 5 million dollars to aid victims of domestic violence through supporting shelters for women and children whose lives have been shattered by abuse, poverty and homelessness.

With all of this fabulous partying in DC, it’s easy to loose sight of the purpose. Who says you can’t have a great time and make a difference in the lives of women and children that are in need of a helping hand.

    Cheers,

    Paul Wharton
