J. Lo, Omar and all the rest of my peeps!

So I’ve been trying to get the inside scoop on the whole J.Lo dog biting scandal. What the hell is my home girl doing rolling with a guard dog on a private jet? I mean, that just sounds crazy. How does the dog know not to attack her? It’s all so complex being J to the Lo.

Ege and I were out early on Saturday looking for a place to eat that served good old fashioned home cooking. My friend Will recommended The Florida Avenue Grill. He said they had the best old fashioned, soul food type breakfast complete with pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon and grits! I was all for it until we rolled the Benz up to the door. Honestly kids, I chickened out on The World Famous Florida Avenue Grill. The old, funky looking plants in the windows freaked me out. It looked like the kind of place that had amazing food but I don’t know, I watched the “Germ” episode of Tyra the other day and now my neurosis is in full swing. I don’t want to touch door handles, menus, salt and pepper shakers, drink out of glasses, use other peoples utensils, it’s really bad you guys. That show jacked me up for living in the real world.. If any of you saw the episode, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. We finally settled on Creme on U and 13th. I had Fried Chicken and Waffles and Shrimp and Grits!! That’s right, I had two entrees! It was delicious except for the busted bottomless Mimosa. It was 3 parts orange juice and one part cheap Champagne. How you gonna serve gourmet food and soup kitchen cocktails! Crazy..

The time came for Omar Popal’s 30th birthday celebration. He’s a great friend of mine that I love and adore. He had his party at his own place, Napoleon Cafe in Adams Morgan. Everyone had a blast… Including my date, my mother Brenda. She and I sat at a table for six, dined on fried calamari and lamb lollipops and held court for most of the night! Erwin, Will, Andrew, Katie Rost, Aaron, TImur and the rest of my crew all gathered around and paid homage to my Mom and the good job she did raising me (I swear that’s what they said!!)… Happy Birthday Omar, I love you kid!!
