New York City is a magical place. DC is where my home is but NYC certainly does have a piece of my heart. I arrived and it was right to work. I’m developing a new project that I can’t wait to share with you all (but note yet). Anyhow Thursday morning came and I was up and out. Midtown for my workout, Soho for shopping and to get my hair done at The Cutler Salon. By the time my hair was finished, the snow was coming down a mile a minute. I ran out of Cutler, trying to do everything I could to shield my head from the fluffy drops of lovliness that would turn my head into a mound of frizz. I got in the back of the Suburban and we were off to the 34th Street studios of BET’s 106 & Park. I was there to be a celebrity guest judge for  The 2010 Rip the Runway Model Contest.

I was in the dressing room when India, BJ Coleman (Misa’s publicist) and Misa Hylton joined my assitant Aussie, Rebecca and Petra (Team Paul) as we prepared for the show. We headed down the hall to get one last hair touch up and then off to the set. The kids were screaming, the energy was high and I was ready to really enjoy myself.

We started with 5 models and after the first round of critiques from my co-judges and I, the audience at home was able to eliminate two of the contenders. I felt sooo very bad that the twin sisters got eliminated. One thing I realize about myself is I really don’t like elimination shows. I want everyone that has been willing to put themselves out there in front of millions on the runway to win!

In the end ModelMaze was our winner and the show was a total success. BJ Coleman and I climbed into Misa’s Mercedes SUV and headed to The Mandarin Oriental in Time Warner Center to have a few cocktails and a lovely dinner. We talked about life, relationships, family and careers. By the time Misa and I dropped BJ off, the snow was about 8 inches deep and coming down fast. Misa was so sweet to drop me off at home, I ran a hot bath and tested out my new products from Fresh!

My friend Sidra introduced me to her friend Eartha, the owner of Indigo Arms, one of New York’s most comfortable, luxurious and beautiful Bed & Breakfast Guest Houses. It’s located at 181 Lenox Avenue in the heart of Harlem. Take my word, I love comfort and luxury, I felt like a King while staying at Indigo Arms. A long day’s work that was seen by millions around the world. Meeting new friends like Eartha and Misa, discovering Indigo Arms, my new home away from home and finding Danielle, the hairstylist at The Cutler Salon that is my new go to hair expert. Now do you see why I say New York is so magical :-)?

Big Love,

Paul Wharton xx
