Hot Summer Event Alert!!!! My friends have been telling me for weeks to come to Jazz on the Green on The Mall downtown. I finally showed up yesterday and it was fabulous. Live Jazz, pitchers of Sangria and lots of really happy, good looking Washingtonians hanging out and having fun! It’s every Friday from 5-8:30 on The Mall (Constitution between 7th & 9th NW).
Oscar and I have hair appointments! Gotta roll out!! Peace xx
I ran around all day yesterday and rushed home to prepare for my evening out with a few members of The CW Washington team and clients of TrenDC! We decided to meet at Wolfgang Puck’s restaurant, The Source. Although Wolfie wasn’t around, his brother Claus and the rest of the gang were there to greet us with open arm and lots of really tasty food. The Source is a great spot to see and be seen. We noticed lots of Senators, Socialites and Sexy power players… and more importantly, they noticed us! xx
Yesterday was quite a day. At the crack of dawn I was up and about getting ready for my big day with my friends in Congress! Yes, that’s what I said! I was invited to meet up with Patti LaBelle at a Recording Artist Program honoring Gospel performers. The person responsible for the event was Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee of Texas. Anyhow, Marcia and I put on our Patti best, rushed over to the Rayburn building, popped into to say what’s up to Jesse Jackson Jr. and a few others and a shuttled over to the event. It was lovely, Rance Allen performed and the Congress woman gave quite a speech. But wait, where in the heck is Patti Labelle!!! Have you ever been involved in an event for a good cause and you’re really happy to be there but you actually came just to see someone in particular??? Patti was apparently held up at another appointment and couldn’t make it. Every time the door opened I broke my neck to see if my home girl was going to come busting through the door and hit us with some signature Patti high notes!
To make up for my disappointment, Marcia and I decided to have a feel better lunch over at The Mandarin Oriental Hotel’s Cafe Mozu. We ate outside and it was simply gorgeous. The wind was blowing, it was the perfect temperature and we chatted about business, life and politics.
I have to share a great story with you. Marcia was on the campaign trail with The President and Hillary Clinton just before the holidays in Iowa. The snow was coming down and a few of Marcia’s flights had been cancelled. She got a call on her cell from an aid that asked if she was safely on the plane. She said she wasn’t yet but hoped to be able to board a flight soon. The aide said, stay where you are and don’t get on any plane. Shortly thereafter, another aide came running down the corridor, grabbed her bags and whisked her away in a speeding SUV through the snow. She soon approached a private airport and saw flashing lights and Secret Service. She was escorted out of the car and onto the waiting plane. Once on the plane, she looked up and President Clinton said “She’s here”! Hillary followed with “Yes, she’s here, now we can go”. Does anyone else have goose bumps! You have to admit, that’s pretty damn fabulous!
I’m sure you guys saw me on TV last night? That fabulous new show about models over 35?? If not, catch it soon, I think I did you proud! Cheers!
Tuesday evening goes down in the record books as one of those fabulous nights that you have to see to believe. It started with my chauffeured limousine arriving at my home to pick me up. Reston Limousine is my main go to source when I want to be driven around town (everyday).. Some days I’m feeling the big black SUV, others the sleek town car but last night I felt like stretching my legs in shiny black limo and Reston did me right www.restonlimo.com!!
I intended on hitting Evelyn Brook’s jewelry show at The Ritz but I got off to a late start and had to head directly to the National Building Museum for the annual Nordstrom’s Designer Preview. This year, the beneficiary was a charity that is close to my heart, Knock Out Abuse. It helps to combat domestic violence against women. My friend Cheryl Masri founded the organization and my other friend Cyndi Jones was the chair for the fashion show.
My beautiful date Marcia Dyson and I took our front row seats and let the fashion take us away! Versace, Missoni, Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana, bam, bam, bam, one after another, it was almost to much for our little fashionable hearts to take!
I looked up and realized it was almost 9 o’clock so my assistant told our driver Peter to pull up the limo and head over to Adams Morgan where I was co-hosting a book signing party for my friend, Actor and Author Hill Harper. Hill has a new book that inspires young women and we are all so proud of him. We sold over 400 books and enjoyed lots of fab food and friends at the home of Julian Epstein. My sweet pea Tanya Lombard was by my side for most of the night so you know I was pleased!! Love you T!
After the party, my Mom and Holly hitched a ride back to their car, and once I dropped them off I headed to the Hudson Lounge on M Street to catch up with Cyndi and the other girls from Knock Out. The party was nice but I decided to sneak out without anyone noticing and head over to the Four Season where my crew was having Veuve Cliquot and late night snacks. My phone rang off the hook with others looking for me to get to the after party at Coco Sala for Hill’s get together, so we all jumped back into the limo and headed over to F St. Are you tired yet???
I’m going to stop there because I know if I keep on going with the truth, you will certainly think I’m lying! This is why my blog is called the ‘Glamorous Life’!! What a night.. A great charity, good family and friends, a few notable celebs, and lots of amazing energy!! This city isn’t so bad after all! I think I just might stick around…
OMG. Stop everything, just stop. Pump your brakes and slow your roll. So I’m opening model mail and I don’t even believe what I see. First off, it took me an hour to figure out if this particular picture was a joke or really a submission of an aspiring model. This lovely young woman has a beautiful face with about two pounds of all the wrong make-up on it. The foundation on her face is about three shades lighter than her neck, the blush makes her look like she has Rosacea, she has some fictitious nose painted on with dark brown eyeliner… It’s just awful. Ladies, I went straight to my how to notes on making your face look and feel flawless.. I mean come on, it’s Top Model casting season.. Have some respect :-)!
Paul Wharton’s Make-up Tips.. Read carefully!
*Your foundation should always match your skin as perfectly as possible.
* When choosing foundation and tinted moisturizer, always choose a product formulated for your particular skin type. That way your foundation will do double duty, providing coverage and treating your skin. your make up in natural light and double check for any edges or lines.
* You may not need a full coverage foundation; if your skin is clear then tinted moisturizer may be all you need. It will hydrate, protect, easily blend and allow your natural skin tone to show through, while adding a touch of color and balancing out your skin tone.
* A trick professional make up artists use to make skin look ultra smooth is primer. Use a lightweight primer appropriate for your skin type before you apply your foundation and after you apply your moisturizer. It fills in large pores and evens out skin tone and will help your make up last longer.
* With any make up always start with less than you think you need. If you apply in layers, your make up will look more natural. Blend well.
* Powder should either match your foundation or skin tone perfectly or be sheer enough not to change your skin color. Use only light dustings of powder.
* Always curl your lashes before applying mascara. Curled lashes open up your face and lighten and brighten your eyes.
* Sharpen all make up pencils frequently to prevent bacteria from building up.
* Use a clear gel on your eyebrows for a natural look.
* Evaluate your eyelashes: are they short, thin, long, thick, curly, too pale or almost perfect? Choose a mascara to enhance the areas that need improving, lengthening, thickening, curling, or darkening.
* Use a lip liner that is the same color as your natural lips, so there is no visible line. This will accentuate your lip shape and will help whatever lip covering you choose (lip gloss or lipstick) stay on longer.
* If you’re in a hurry – mascara and lip gloss may be all you have time for, and will make a big difference. If you any blemishes, use a quick dab of concealer.
Now go be beautiful! Let me know if the tips helped! xx
How was the weekend my people? On Saturday I did the sophisticated intellectual party thing at the fabulous Hillary Rosen’s home with CNN’s Suzanne Malveaux, Ernie and Debbie Jarvis, Michael Eric and Marcia Dyson, Yebbie Watkins, David Sutphan, Joelle and a whole bunch of other fabulous political folks and media moguls that I adore. On Sunday, I did the serious nature thing.. I headed out to my family’s crib and took a dip in the pool, played a little tennis and then had a nap in my old bed! I would be lying if I didn’t say I seriously considered coming up with some excuse to move back home!
Before that, I met up with Will and Ege for brunch at that chic little french cafe in Georgetown, Le Pain Quotidien.. We ate out back but they have the coolest long table in the middle where they sit strangers together to mingle and chat, very cool.. Probably a good place to meet new friends and hot dates! The food was delicious! Old habits die hard so after our rejuvenating, organic brunch with Mint Lemonade, we popped across M Street and set up shop for a bit at the Four Seasons Hotel. We had a bottle of Laurent Perrier Champagne and lots of laughter.. Ege and I headed out to VA where he tricked me into helping him shop at The Home Depot and Whole Foods… Now, I barely shop for my own household products so you can imagine my sudden shift in attitude when I found myself being taken the wrong way up M Street and up Rte 50 to Seven Corners! I told him H-to-the-E if he thought I was dragging a box of tools and some 2×4’s on my back across Home Depot. It wasn’t so bad after all… In fact, I’d forgotten how much stuff I like in that store..
After my brunch and Four Season’s champagne, I was officially a zombie after about an hour at Whole Foods. Ege took pity on me and dropped me off with my family. Not being one to ever want to go home early, I ended back at Ege’s McLean home for a lovely bbq with a gaggle of our French speaking friends. Note to self “Your international butt does not speak a lick of French”. Sorry, I had to keep it real. There’s nothing worse than looking interested in what everyone is saying when you haven’t the slightest idea what they’re talking about!!
All in all, I had a brilliant Sunday. I’m hoping to have more info on our America’s Next Top Model casting schedule today. Keep checking back to get the latest news. Did you guys check out my interview with LeVar Arrington.. Holla at your boy! xx
I was so sad to hear of Tim Russert’s passing. I had the pleasure of meeting him on several occasions and I was always impressed by his charm and stature. We will miss him dearly. I’m heading up to Hillary Rosen’s home for a dinner honoring my pals Michael Eric Dyson and Marcia Dyson. They are two political power players that make waves daily on top political television shows. Lots of media celebs will be in attendance. I’ll be sure to give you all of the hot scoop soon.
My thoughts go out to the Russert family.. There are no words, only that we are extremely sorry for your loss. xx
Woooooo! The heat is on and it’s no joke. Had a fun night with my peeps at The Beacon Hotel on 17th and Rhode Island. They have the coolest little rooftop bar that overlooks the city. Brooke, Andrew, Will, Erika and a few others gathered to have a bite and a few cocktails on the roof.
I was planning on heading out to my family’s place to hang at the pool but it’s entirely too hot today! I’ll lay low, do some housework, work on my book, return phone calls and get ready for a political cocktail welcoming Michael and Marcia Dyson to DC. I’ll be covering the DNC on the same show with them in August so I’m thrilled to spend more time getting to know them better!
Alicia Keys tore DC up yesterday. Your ear would have to be in your foot to not know that girl is bad a**! Get it Girl!!
I have to run. I’m baking a chicken and Oscar is chewing something that sounds expensive! I’ll holla back in a bit!!! xx
I caught up with Will and Andrew and headed over to an old fashioned weekday bbq! It was awesome to sit and chill with friends. However all of the conversation kept going back to Alicia Keys and how everyone was going to get tickets! Although I have box seats, I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to make it since I really want to spend the time with my three nieces. Remember this kids, no matter how fabulous you get, never forget family! They will be there when no one else gives a fudge!
I heard today that we may be doing a hot, hot, hot screening and party for the hit Broadway musical turned motion picture Mamma Mia! If you’re a fan, hit me up on the blog and I’ll try to make sure you get in to our private screening and party.
Friday is here, what are your plans for the weekend? I’m going to hit a few good parties and prepare to host thousands of you for the America’s Next Top Model Casting. I mention it so much because it is going to be huge! I really want a girl from DC to end up on the show!
My workouts are going really well. It’s been a while but I’m pushing myself to show you guys that living fabulous includes taking care of yourself and maintaining a body that you are proud of.
The crew and I hit up a Thursday night favorite, Josephine’s! It was hot, hot, hot. The music was on point and we had a blast. Be sure to check it out at some point. I’ll check in with you tomorrow to see what the weekend holds for you. Write me in the comment section and tell me what’s hot for you this weekend! Until then… xxx
Hello Lover (Sorry, that was a flashback from Sex and the City)! Anyhow, you all know Alicia is coming to town on Friday and my CW Concert Connection has hooked some of you up with tickets. If you guys didn’t know about it, click on Concert Connection and enter the contests that I put together to get your hands on the best tickets to the hottest shows in Washington. I last saw Alicia at the BET Honors that was held at The Warner Theatre early in the year. She was exceptionally beautiful and just as nice as she was when I met her years ago before she was uber-famous.. I adore her and hope to get to know her better soon!
Lots of people headed over to the White Party at Mitchell Gold last night but I decided to lay low and work on my back to being fabulous plan! I’ve been working with the people of Renu Med Spa and running outside every day with Oscar to prepare for my beautiful booty boot camp! I’m getting lots of input from several folks that claim to be experts about which type of exercise program I should commit to. It looks like I’ll do a combination of Pilates, Yoga and private sessions with a personal trainer. Any advice you have is much appreciated!
The countdown to the America’s Next Top Model castings is on so check TrenDC every day to see when and where you can meet me and my model casting crew. We can’t wait to see just how fiercely you work the runway.
I talked to one of my best friend’s Lynda Erkiletian last night on the phone for three hours! Do you have a friend in your life that you may not talk to everyday but the love is so strong that it doesn’t even matter. Friendship is a beautiful thing. Now go out and get Ashford and Simpson’s “Reach out and touch” and give your bff a shout!! xxx
